Decentralization expands the theoretical parts of food gracefully, for example, availability and steadiness. In this case, the coordinations of guaranteeing the food arrives at the purchaser are less muddled in light of the fact that the food is inside the territory of the client. Appropriation of better food creation strategies and advancements can likewise help in managing the dangers of worldwide food gracefully. Automated cultivating and examination in dry season lenient harvests are a portion of the advanced methodologies that guarantee consistency in food supply(Frankenberger et al., 2014).  Improved worldwide relations with the exchange accomplices and cooperation examination and food creation will upgrade worldwide food gracefully. Nations and food makers may consent to exchange arrangements that encourage food flexibly. Arrangements on explicit food handling and quality can improveworld food gracefully. Ranchers and food handling global may share innovations and insight on bioterrorism to lessen agrarian fear based oppression (Carpenter et al., 2013; Olson, 2012).  Decentralization of food creation influences the administration of creation and item copyrights.Different nations and districts have exceptional ways to deal with food creation. The climatic and states of being vary starting with one nation then onto the next. Decentralization of creation will require a technique of adjusting the procedures, strategies, and destinations of all the stakeholders.High expenses of selection and alleviation measures for environmental change and catastrophic events influence food flexibly. Exploration on yields, animals, and cultivating frameworks that are lenient to environmental change requires long terms systems and resources(Carpenter et al., 2013; Olson, 2012). End  Stability in worldwide food flexibly requires a multidimensional methodology. Olson (2012) indicated that managing bioterrorism includes scientists in farming biotechnology and the security offices. Agreeing toFrankenberger (2014) economical food gracefully, relies upon sharing specialized data on environmental change. Limit working at the creation level influences the consistency of food gracefully. Specialized data on nursery emanations at the neighborhood level and on a worldwide scale can help in planning strategies on manageability of the gracefully chain. Food flexibly additionally depends on the co-activity of food gracefully multinationals, Non-Governmental associations, and exchange associations. The Reasoning for Shakespeares Inclusion of the Witches in Macbeth Essay Example For Students

The Reasoning for Shakespeares Inclusion of the Witches in Macbeth Essay The witches are fundamental components in Shakespeares Macbeth, not simply to make it fruitful in Jacobean occasions, yet additionally to add profundity and air to the play. They are the base of turmoil and are the trigger factor for the mayhem that unfurls all through the play. Shakespeare considered their job cautiously and included them for significant reasons. In 1604, a year after he went to the English seat, James passed numerous laws on black magic, having indicated a lot of enthusiasm for the subject, to the degree of composing his own book seven years beforehand, entitled Daemonologie. In this book he set forward his contentions for faith in black magic and wicked belonging, convictions that were made obvious through his inclusion in various preliminaries of supposed witches. It is realized that Macbeth was performed for James I and is expected that the plot of the impact of black magic on the government was contrived to satisfy the King, with James being said to have professed to be a descendent of Banquo. Shakespeare would have been paid a lot of cash to have his play performed for King James, so it was to his greatest advantage to incorporate a subject that the King was enthusiastic about. We will compose a custom exposition on The Reasoning for Shakespeares Inclusion of the Witches in Macbeth explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now For a crowd of people living in the17th century, black magic and the powers of malice were genuine, a piece of their regular daily existences, something that they needed to grapple with, making the play in a flash famous and fruitful. Shakespeare utilizes the witches to in a flash make a climate of dread and underhandedness, setting the subject of the play, which is the battle among great and wickedness. Shakespeare makes a demeanor of murkiness, disarray and otherworldliness with his first stage bearing of Thunder and helping. Enter three witches. This is repeated towards the finish of the main scene when the witches state Fair is foul and foul is reasonable, telling the crowd that it is frequently hard to recognize great and detestable, and regularly the two become entwined. This snare of the two is appeared with Macbeths first line so foul and reasonable a day I have not seen, giving a case of what the witches inferred thus educating the crowd that the connection among Macbeth and the witches, or great and fiendishness at this stage, will be a significant subject in the play. The witches abilities are appeared in Act 1 Scene 3, when the peculiar sisters are examining the discipline caused on the spouse of a back end took care of ronyon who would not give one of the witches a few chestnuts. The main witch has reviled the vessel on which the spouse is cruising so it will be whirlwind tost. The witches make storms, with every one of different witches saying Ill give thee a breeze, along these lines making the water amazingly rough so the spouse can't dock his pontoon. In any case, the principal witch expresses that his bark can't be lost. By the bark, she is alluding to the vessel, demonstrating that there is a cutoff to the shrewd they can perform, as they can't pulverize the keeps an eye on pontoon or life, however are just ready to meddle with the components. This shows there is a cutoff to the harm and confusion they can cause and that there is an expectation that cooperative attitude win, as the witches can't wreck things. In any case, the witches can achieve demise as, if the man can't dock his vessel, he will starve adrift or his pontoon will be cleared onto rocks. .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .postImageUrl , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .focused content territory { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:hover , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:visited , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:active { border:0!important; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 { show: square; change: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-progress: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; darkness: 1; progress: haziness 250ms; webkit-change: murkiness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:active , .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:hover { mistiness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: obscurity 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .focused content zone { width: 100%; position: rela tive; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content enhancement: underline; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt range: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt sweep: 3px; content adjust: focus; content design: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u3cba 8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u3cba8a25f2a4ea1f23e09ec0b570a111:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: William Shakespeares Life EssayThis is demonstrated as, toward the finish of the witches discussion, the main witch delivers a pilots thumb, which is that of the mariner, whose vessel was wreckd as back home he came. In spite of the fact that the witches can't straightforwardly realize passing, they can play a part in the components that cause it. The witches can just make the atmosphere for detestable, as man alone causes disarray by obliterating request, as is demonstrated further on in the play when, through the witches predictions, Macbeth executes a considerable lot of everyone around him. Shakespeare utilizes the witches to show from a more minor perspective what will occur all through the play. From multiple points of view the mariner and his vessel are agents of Macbeth when he is administering Scotland. There will be numerous fierce and turbulent occasions and Macbeth will be weak with regards to controlling the nation in such conditions, yet he has realized the conditions through the weight of his significant other, as the mariners spouse made the witches revile his vessel. Essentially, Shakespeare utilizes the witches to show how everything around Macbeth, in spite of the fact that it appears to be strong in the first place, will fall apart until it is only a waiting memory. Toward the finish of his first gathering with them on the heath in Act 1 Scene 3, after line 78, the witches disappear. As Banquo compares them to rises in the earth or water, which can be seen however are nothing, Macbeth says that what seemd corporal softened as breath into the breeze. This speaks to the manner by which all request in his life keeps on crumbling after he has heard the witches predictions, and how all that appears to be close and certain, for example, King Duncan and Banquo, will be decimated and turn out to be nothing. Macbeth is near Banquo now and is faithful to his ruler, as he has recently battled for him. It appears to be unbelievable to consider that Macbeth will slaughter them both, similarly as it appeared to be unimaginable that the witches would vanish when they had been truly present just minutes prior. Taking everything into account, plainly there were two primary reasons why Shakespeare remembered the witches for Macbeth. Right off the bat the witches are a focal component and are fundamental for making an air and reason for the play, and also black magic was a significant issue for individuals in the mid seventeenth century and was a primary enthusiasm of the lord at that point, James 1 of England.

Privileged Motherhood in Anna Karenina and The Awakening - Literature Essay Samples

In Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, the concept of privileged motherhood is introduced fairly early in the narrative: â€Å"â€Å"She stood watching the fair woman walk down the long line of galleries with the grace and majesty which queens are sometimes supposed to possess. Her little ones ran to meet her. Two of them clung about her white skirts, the third she took from its nurse and with a thousand endearments bore it along in her own fond, encircling arms. Though, as everybody well knew, the doctor had forbidden her to lift so much as a pin† (27). Emphasis mine. In the nineteenth century, the essentialist perspective in gender relations was prevalent. The best evidence for the dominance of the essentialist perspective can be seen in the fact that the first wave of feminism led by luminaries like Elizabeth Cady Stanton used the view that women were naturally more spiritual, generous and maternal as their main argument. This perspective idealized motherhood as the quinte ssential role for women. The â€Å"privileged mother†, the maternal figure in the most romanticized form, occupied a special place in nineteenth century literature. The concept of the privileged motherhood required two factors – children and wealth. In the absence of both factors, women became the subjects of pity. The barren women has roots in Biblical accounts but took a particularly heartrending tone in nineteenth century literature as the tragic spinster. The situation for poor mothers had not changed much since Jonathan Swift wrote â€Å"A Modest Proposal† to draw attention to the societal neglect for the impoverished family. Mothers in lower income households were overworked, underappreciated slaves to biology, struggling to keep their children alive in an era when starvation, poor hygiene and typhus created high infant mortality rates. Many mothers died in labor as the medical establishment refused to fully accept the hygiene program of Ignaz Semmelweis, who first established hygiene regimens for his doctors yet died in 1865 with only a few adherents and many critics. Seemingly immune from the ravages of barrenness and pover ty, the women who managed to obtain â€Å"privileged motherhood† seemed to have everything including material determinism, leisure, healthy children and moral spiritual dignity. By contrast to the ideal of privileged motherhood, Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina (1877) and Kate Chopin’s The Awakening (1899) depict the beneficiary of â€Å"privileged motherhood† as a social parasite that creates a precedent for modernism. These depictions challenge the maternal idealism through dynamic tensions and ultimate self-destruction. Anna Karenina and Edna Pontellier embody the roles of â€Å"privileged motherhood† by their ability to be mothers without needing to fulfill the primary caregiver roles. Maternity still has the symbolic significance of conveying religious and spiritual authority; however the nannies and maids fulfill most of the maternal roles. The â€Å"privileged mother† has an undisputed centrality in the family while forgoing most of the labor that role entails. â€Å"Privileged motherhood† represents a unique opportunity to forge an identity independent of familial bonds without the emotional cost of spinsterhood a nd thus supports Tolstoy’s assertion that â€Å"Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.† (1) Due to the release from the mundane duties of maternal care, the privileged mother experiences freedom deemed excessive by nineteenth century standards. This creates a guilt that forces the mother to extend special efforts in the discharge of her family duties (True 25). From a modern perspective, the concept of â€Å"privileged motherhood† as a source of guilt may seem strange from a modern perspective in which feminist sensibilities have combined with modern technology in order to foster an expectation for â€Å"privileged motherhood.† However, in the absence of such dynamics, one has to note that in the nineteenth century that â€Å"privileged motherhood† was a relatively rare and new institution. Anna Karenina and Edna Pontellier both have potential to be viewed as feminist prototypes; however, their narratives more clearly depict a diminution of â€Å"privileged mothers† in the eyes of nineteenth century society. The personal autonomy enjoyed by Karenina and Pontellier becomes the basis of social condemnation and scandal. The privileged mothers ultimately destabilize their positions due to a desire for greater autonomy which is manifested by attempts to fulfill their sexual desires and ultimately their suicides. The salient elements of the narratives established in Anna Karenina and The Awakening are identified and placed in the context of the thesis established above. The key passages necessary to advance the methodology proposed in Part 2 are highlighted. The elements will be set against a backdrop comprised of a brief overview of each work. This chapter is intended to provide the foundation for the exploration of the nineteenth century literary representation of female sexual desires that is undertaken in succeeding chapters. It is here that the ironies discussed in Chapter 4 and 5 are established. As an example, the description of Leonce Pontelliers social status, where †¦all declared Mr. Pontellier was the best husband in the world† (Chopin, 17) allows the profound social impact of the fall of Edna Pontellier to be clearly understood.

Canadian Leader Pierre Elliot Trudeau Essay - 1669 Words

Pierre Elliot Trudeau was arguably one of the most vivacious and charismatic Prime Ministers Canada has ever seen. He wore capes, dated celebrities and always wore a red rose boutonniere. He looked like a superhero, and often acted like one too. Some of the landmark occurrences in Canadian history all happened during the Trudeau era, such as patriating the constitution, creating the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the 1980 Quebec Referendum. However, it is Trudeau’s 1969 â€Å"white paper† and the Calder legal challenge which many consider to be one of his most influential contributions to Canadian history. Trudeau himself was a liberal. One of the core beliefs of liberal ideology is that of individual rights, meaning that†¦show more content†¦The main reason why the white paper was brought in was because the federal government could no longer deny that Canada’s Aboriginal peoples were facing serious socio-economic troubles that the rest of Canadians were not. These issues included higher poverty and infant mortality rates, lower life expectancy and poorer education levels. Also at this time, the civil rights movement happening in the United States brought an increased level of public awareness to issues of social justice, and made many Canadians questioning the inequality and discrimination in Canada and how it pertained to First Nations people. In addition to the 1969 White Paper proposals, other landmark occurrences with Trudeau’s relationship to Canadian Aboriginals included the 1973 Calder case. With the rise of awareness about social justice issues, the federal government commissioned anthropologist Harry Hawthorn in 1963 from the University of British Columbia to look into the social injustices faced by Aboriginal people across the country. In his report, Hawthorn discovered that Aboriginal peoples were incredibly marginalized due to their isolation from the rest of society caused by years of failed federal policies, which included the residential school system. Due to the abuse and neglect many Aboriginals faced at these residential schools, they were left with emotional trauma which made them unable to want to contribute to a society which had done nothing butShow MoreRelatedEssay on Pierre Elliot Trudeau1205 Words   |  5 PagesPierre Elliot Trudeau: A Successful Prime Minister A great Prime Minister should always do what is right for Canada, no matter what obstacles he or she faces. We re Still Divided By Race By Carly Morris - 1132 Words

In the past, humanity faced diverse hardships that were presented differently each time. These hardships include gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, the list could go on for a massive amount of time. And each time, communities have tried to fight back, and with the right kind of effort, won the rights to what they were fighting for. Just like how African Americans, Asian, Latinos, and Whites fought each other for the right of being integrated. However, in today’s society, the public has forgotten their fight for integration, and has segregated themselves through choice. Many folks agree with this notion, making various videos, articles, and maps to educate the world. The video â€Å"Racial Segregation in American Schools†, by Carly Morris, claims how segregation has come back in the deep southern parts of America. Also, a map titled â€Å"Racial Segregation in American Cities† continues to show us the ongoing theme of the separation of people. Similarly, the a rticle â€Å"We’re Still Divided by Race†, by various authors, talks about how segregation is still around, whether by design or by choice. Through numerous appeals and strategies, they all convey the shared argument that personal preferences lead to the segregation of mankind. Marijuana Is The Most Common Sobriquet Of Cannabis

Marijuana is the most common sobriquet of cannabis, a plant indigenous to Central and South Asia. It is widely known for its psychoactive properties and its usage can be reliably traced as far back to the 3rd millennia BCE. Marijuana has been used for both recreational and medicinal purposes and, according to studies done by the United Nations, is consumed by approximately 4% of the adult population. In the United States, possession and sale of marijuana is illegal under federal law. The illegality of the marijuana, along with the piercing, negative stigma attached to it, has polarized Americans profusely for much of the 20th century up to now. Advocates of the drug heap praise on its medical benefits and stress its relative harmlessness†¦show more content†¦George Washington, among other presidents, grew hemp as one of his three primary crops. It was used for the manufacturing of rope, sails, cloth, and even oil (â€Å"Hemp Education†). So valuable was hemp that, in 1619, the Virginia Assembly promulgated a requirement for farmers to grow it; a colonist could face imprisonment if he refused to grow hemp on his property. Steady hemp cultivation continued into the 19th century until the means of production of other materials, like cotton, became more efficient and less expensive. Hemp required extensive manual labor and was processed at a slower and lower rate, comparatively (Will). Conversely, it was during this time, when its industrial utility lessened, that the medicinal usage of cannabis increased. Cannabis was integrated into Western medicine after William Brooke O’Shaughnessy, and Irish doctor, discovered its therapeutic effects in 1839 while using plant resin on patients suffering from painful spasms; about a decade later, medicinal cannabis could be found in American pharmacies (Meyers). Contemporaneously, the recreational use of cannabis became in vogue. Labeled a â€Å"fashionable narcotic†, both sexes of the upper class frequented parlors providing hashish, a preparation of cannabis resin (â€Å"Our Fashionable Narcotics†). Recreationally smoking cannabis cigarettes, or â€Å"marijuana† as it was termed in Mexico, was popularized by Mexican immigrants that escaped the fighting of the Mexican Revolution of 1910 and

Argumentative Essay for DSA Scheme- myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Write about theArgumentative Essay for DSA Scheme. Answer: Gifted students are common in many schools and academic institutions globally. Those with talents and abilities may need programs that offer challenges to push them into their true potentials. Different countries have varied approaches to this issue and take measures that are appropriate to their setting. In Singapore, the Direct School Admission (DSA) plays an important role in identifying and nurturing pupils with special talents and abilities. Its efficacy can be seen in the global education rankings where it is the top performer. The current DSA program should be further revised to be reserved only for non-academic talent in order in order to build the sporting talent and rankings of the country as well as to nurture the national sports industry. Definition of the expanded DSA scheme The expanded DSA scheme states that from 2018, schools are supposed to preserve a certain percentage of allocations for their non-Integrated Program for students with abilities that lie beyond traditional academic exams. This allocation has been set at 20% and is intended to nurture talents in sports and the arts. It also allows students to apply based on academic strengths and talents (Davie 2016). The students who qualify will be able to access schools that will nurture and develop their talents. Students applying for the DSA under these specifications will not be required to sit for the general academic exams, such as the Primary School Leaving Exam (PSLE). The admission caps have been lifted in terms of the different categories such as niche programs, autonomous and independent schools. Issues surrounding the current expanded DSA scheme The educational issues on the expanded DSA is that it may eventually end compromising the quality of the PSLE as more students will focus on preparing for the DSA as a form of parallel alternative (Davies 2016). This has seen the proliferation of courses that are set to prepare the students for the DSA, despite not having natural ability. The economic issue is that it benefits those wealthy in society and disenfranchises the poor. Many of those who applied during the last five years had parents who resided in private housing and this shows the economic disparity (Seow 2016). The social impact of DSA is that it puts excessive stress on children who have to sacrifice their childhood in order to outperform their peers (Seow 2016). This leads to some being affected by mental illness. Arguments against upholding the current DSA scheme The current DSA allows for applications from both academic and non-academic talents and abilities. Going by the global rankings on education, Singapore has been shown to top in Mathematics and Sciences on exams taken for students under 15 years of age (Coughlan 2016). This shows that the traditional and Gifted Education Programs are working and beneficial. Instead of improving on these outcomes, putting emphasis on building the sports and arts considerations should be given more prominence. This requires limiting the DSA to non-academic talent. This would help enrich the schools that have academic programs by nurturing sports and arts within their student populations. The emphasis on non-academic programs will help to nurture talent that will develop talent for the sporting and arts industry. Singapore has hosted a number of high profile sporting events such as the World Rugby Sevens and the Singapore Grand Prix (Loh 2016). The investment in physical infrastructure should be accompanied by the corresponding investment in human capacity. In order to provide talent who can compete at international events and manage such events hosted domestically will require talent development through the schools. The DSA can be used to tap and nurture this talent. Lo (2016) states that this will also spur the development of universities such as the Edinburgh-Nappier University that offer sports degrees as they will have enough students from niche schools. Students with exceptional talents in the arts will contribute to the development of a thriving domestic film, music and performing arts industry in Singapore. The students who pass through niche schools will also ensure the sustainability of arts schools such as SOTA, as they will have a steady supply of students. The development of arts will help to enrich the variety of entertainment that can be offered socially and reduce the dependence on imported forms of entertainment (Akuno, 2017). This will have an overall positive impact on the culture and economy. Locally produced films and music can be exported and this will help expose the culture of Singapore. Thus the expanded DSA should focus more non-academic talent. Arguments for upholding the current DSA. Focusing on non-academic talent will disenfranchise students who may not be generally strong academically, but in specific subjects such as Mathematics. This will stifle their talents and abilities when they are allowed to go through the normal academic testing. The DSA gives students who do not gain admission into the Gifted Education Program (GEP), with less than 1% being admitted (Kiem 2016). Another argument is that there are relatively fewer students with natural talents and abilities in sports and the arts when compared to academic students. Their ability to have positive impact on the economy in the future is therefore limited and negligible. Tan (2016) asserts that this is not natural talent but groomed and artificial talent which will fizzle out. The DSA is a good example of a national program that seeks to nurture natural talents and abilities which are both academic and non-academic. The expanded DSA program allows for both categories of students to apply. The main argument against it is that by allowing for applicants with academic talents, it becomes just another program similar to the GEP. It does not meet its original mandate that sought to nurture non-academic talent. Focusing on non-academic talent will be beneficial in nurturing the local arts and sports industries which economically benefit the nation. This can be countered by stating that its very few students with natural talent who can progress to become professionals: many fizzle out in secondary school. References Akuno, E. A. (2017). Success Essay Example For Students

Success Essay What makes a person successful? Does money, parents, or background guarantee success? The definition of success varies with each person, but to me one of the most essential definitions of a persons success is the impact they have on other people. Most of us hold pre-conceived notions of different socioeconomic backgrounds than our own. While people are truly impacted by these factors, some people can overcome them and reach success. Many people throughout history have prevailed over such obstacles as poverty, poor education, and poor parental guidance. For example, Abraham Lincoln had to struggle for a living and for learning, but he became a great leader and president. In my life, I have encountered a special person who has taught me that people really can overcome obstacles. The person who has taught me this important lesson is a special friend of mine. I met her when I was young and had no idea of the obstacles she had confronted or would face in the future. I realized that she was underprivileged, because she could not participate in expensive activities. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she found a way to learn and participate. For example, we would teach her fundamental gymnastics skills and she would practice at home. The thing that impressed me about her was that she never acted like she felt underprivileged, in fact, she always seemed proud of her family and her life. As we became better friends, I learned more about her and started to understand her troubles. As we entered middle school, I began to notice the small amount of clothes she had to wear and how crowded her undersized trailer seemed with five people living in it. I learned that she had lived in various cities and had numerous father figures. You would never hear her complain and she was always smiling. Now that we are in high school, she has made so much of herself. She has not only succeeded academically, but morally and socially. She has become one of the most caring and understanding friends I have. My friend has taught me more than any class or test. She has educated me about life. She has a reach for the stars attitude when I need guidance. She has showed me that anyone can overcome obstacles. I have learned to appreciate what I have and other people differences. It is easy to envy other people, but my friend never showed this feeling. She has taught me, through her example, to never feel embarrassed, but to always feel fortunate. Even though, my friend may never be famous or wealthy, she has become an outstanding person who has had a positive influence on others and me. The most impressive thing about my friend is her outgoing and totally cheerful personality. She has taught me that I can become anything if I just strive for the best. Knowing her has made me a better person and will certainly assist me in the future.

Using the FSU College of Medicine Self-Critical EssayThe FSU College of Medicine is dedicated to offering undergraduate and postgraduate training in the field of medicine. This article is written for students that are interested in applying for the college of medicine, as this is the first step f or a potential student. To make the most of the application process, prospective students must use their imagination. The essay must be interesting, yet it must be concise, yet detailed enough to illustrate the applicant's unique learning style. Prerequisite courses are required for a B.S. degree.Elective courses on courses that students choose are not required, and they are not elective courses at all. Writing Contractions in Graduate School Essay

Writing Contractions in Graduate School EssayWriting contractions in graduate school essay is one of the most difficult problems a student may encounter, but it can be easily overcome with some practice. When writing a graduate school essay, a common mistake that many students make is choosing words that sound alike or choosing words that are not understood by the reader.Contractions are nothing more than repeating the word 'so' in a sentence. These can be a great help to students who are studying grammar, but there are also many benefits for writing contractions in formal academic writing.Contractions in graduate school essay can be helpful for a variety of reasons. They can be used to show emotion or to introduce a concept. They can be used as an introductory sentence, or just to help complete a thought. When using contractions in a formal composition, good practice is to write to the point, rather than writing too much. Students who do this find that they have a better grasp of the topic. They also find that they come up with more ideas and more creative uses for the subject matter.Contractions can also be used in research papers. Because students are asked to expand on what they have already written, students who use contractions often find that their research papers read like an encyclopedia. Many times, these papers will have quotations from people that are commonly heard or seen, and this gives students a great sense of connecting to the subjects that they are writing about. It is a popular term in many academic writing, but it is not used as often as it should be. The reason is because it is a powerful tool in research papers, which means that many students find that it can be used in a way that goes beyond what is normal. As a student, if you are concerned about contractions in your writing, take a look at several different examples of different types of contractions. Last Map Is the Heart the Broken Globe Essay Example

Last Map Is the Heart: the Broken Globe Paper Leaving home does not mean abandoning ones traditions and beliefs. One will find new truths with their new surroundings; one may reject these truths if they so desire. Canadian author Henry Kreisel uses irony throughout his short story The Broken Globe. It is an ironic drama that demonstrates the relationship between a father and son. Nick Solchuck, geophysicist, is the son of a man who believes the Earth to be flat and still. Many immigrants who leave their native land hold strongly to traditions and beliefs; this is particularly hard for Mr. Solchuck considering new world realizations and the ironic success of his son, Nick. Mr. Solchuck grew up in a small Ukrainian village where he was educated by a medieval priest. He believed that everyone spoke against what he had learned in that school was turning to Satan. He grew up in a place where â€Å"the sun rose in the East and set in the West,† †¦ (Kreisel 143), this demonstrates how medieval Mr. Solcucks education was, he literally grew up in a time and place that people believed the sun was mobile. This held him back his entire life as he could not even accept the possibility of new concepts. With prolonged hatred towards the French, Mr. Solchuck is deeply offended when his son, Nick is practicing French under his roof. Nick Solchuck realizes about his father: â€Å"He wasnt mad but that he lived in the universe of the medieval church,† (Kreisel 143). This was Nick coming to the clearing of an internal storm representing the relationship between him and his father. Mr. Solchuck was holding strongly to what he knew to be true. â€Å"That thing over there,† (Kreisel 148), Mr. Solchuck refers to his son Nicks globe, â€Å"its a false thing,† (Kreisel 148) he states confidently. Nick had brought the globe home when he was 13 years old. Mr. Solchucks inability to accept the globes shape and his sons acceptance of it results in a broken globe. The broken globe is a symbol of Mr. Solchucks battle with his sons success and beliefs. Mr. Solchuck physically attacks the globe because it goes so beyond his beliefs. This event is so significant in Kreisels short story, that the title is in direct relation with it. It is not easy for Mr. Solchuck to stay true to his beliefs, and traditions from his Ukrainian background while his son Nick takes to the new world realizations, and finds success in becoming a geophysicist. Mr. Solchuck was taught that the Earth was flat, and that anyone who spoke against what hed been taught was turning to Satan. Mr. Solchucks old fashioned grudge-holding, abusive ways to attempt to halt the education of Nick Solchuck; Nick knows his father is not mad, he knows there is something to be respected in what comes off as ignorance. The broken globe that stands between t he father and son is symbolic in represent Mr. Solchucks struggle and inability to accept science.

Mental illness Essay Example

Mental illness Essay Example Mental illness Essay Mental illness Essay Health is not the absence of disease but it is a state in which an individual is physically, mentally and psychologically well. When looking at health, you have to consider both the structural, emotional and chemical health of the body. Emotional health involves peoples’ attitudes and thoughts which play a great role in the overall health of an individual. The body is considered to be structurally health when organs, muscles, bones and other body parts are physically health without any damage. Chemical health exists when there is a chemical balance in our body such that toxic chemicals are gotten rid off. I choose this definition because it incorporates every part of the body: psychological aspect, physical and chemical aspect. An individual may not be suffering from a disease but still be considered as unhealthy if there is chemical imbalance in the body or his/her body structures are not sound. Aspects such as body mass index, weight/height ratio are important in determining an individual’s physical health (Tilden, 2005). Mental health: Mental health differs from one individual to the other with others being mentally healthier than others. It is said that we all suffer from some form of mental illness that cannot be medically diagnosed. For one to be mentally health, he/she should be able to enjoy life, be flexible and self actualized. This is achieved through activities such as mindfulness meditation that allow an individual to get the best out of the present. Flexibility on opinions can also enhance the mental health of an individual. Individuals who are rigid in their opinions may end up developing mental problems as a result of stress from the rigid opinions they holds. Self actualization is important in getting the best out of someone. People who are mentally health are in the self actualization process because they try to get the best out of every situation. This is the right definition because of the different aspects of life that it involves. Flexibility, self actualization and enjoying life help in dealing with the different situations that face us in our day to day lives. They help us socialize and make new friends, enable us to deal with loss and misfortunes, raise our self esteem and improve our sexuality (World Health Organization, 2005). Opinions about mental health: My ideas about mental health and illness have mainly come from biological theories that exist. Research indicates that there is a genetic connection to development of a mental disorder. Presently, it is thought that genes have an influence on expression or non-expression of the human character like the facial expression and mental health. Research on identical twins has provided strong evidence that genetic components play a role in development of schizophrenia. On average, there is a 1 % probability of an average person in the US developing schizophrenia while in identical twins if one is diagnosed with this condition, there is a 50% probability of the other one developing the condition regardless of the conditions in which he/she has been brought up in. Dementia on the other hand has been renowned to run in families although one cannot predict with certainty that the same can affect the generation that follows. It is only Huntington’s cholera: a movement disorder that appears to have a single gene as a determinant. Other types of dementia such as Alzheimer’s do not express a familial pattern although its expression in an individual cannot be predictable. Scientists believe the same can apply to other mental disorders which run in families like obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, panic and depression disorders. I believe that alcohol together with substance abuse have a connection to mental illness. Because alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, I believe it plays a major role in development of depression together with other mental health disorders. Apart from depression, nutritional deficiencies that result from alcohol use increase the risk of individual developing nutritional related mental disorders. For example, deficiency of thiamine can lead to brain damage in form of severe dementia even during the early stages of life. Individual suffering from withdrawal syndrome have been found to be at a greater risk of developing delirium tremens which can result to cardiovascular shock or even death. â€Å"Designer† drugs such as â€Å"Ecstasy† have a significant effect on behavior and can bring about permanent memory loss together with severe depression which respond poorly to treatment. Therefore, these drugs can be thought to be contributors to sudden mental illness onset. Other factors such as social cultural factors also contribute to other mental illnesses like Anorexia nervosa, body dysmorphic disorder and bulimia nervosa. Because of the society’s perception of slender women as beautiful, there has been a significant occurrence of eating disorders. This is because of lack of self-esteem together with feelings of being out of control. The fear of sexual maturation has also been said to be a contributing factor to psychological eating disorders. Such factors has changed the society such that it has shifted to valuing activities over the rest which has turned many individuals to slaves of work with little care for the inner self. Mild cases of stress related disorders have as a result an increased likelihood of developing to full blown panic, depressive disorders and anxiety. Therefore, according to my opinion, for one to acquire a healthy mental state, there has to be a balance between work/activities and rest/relaxation. Is it possible for an individual to have a mental illness and still be healthy? It is possible for an individual to be health despite being diagnosed with a mental illness. Mental health stretches beyond the absence of a mental condition. When an individual is diagnosed with a mental condition, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the individual is mentally unhealthy but instead it means that: they have to work more in maintaining their mental health as compared to others. There are individuals who do not have any mental condition but cannot be said to be mentally healthy. This is because they have difficulties in managing stress to the extent that it affects their physical well being by developing headaches, heart diseases and stomach upsets. Difficulties in anger management also can contribute to mental instability which in return affects the mental health. Therefore, it is possible for an individual with a mental condition to be healthy if he/she is able to manage him/herself effectively to be able to enjoy life and achieve goals without many difficulties. What is recovery? According to me, it is the process of changing for the better which can be enhanced by the following factors: treatment, criminal justice interventions, faith institutions, receiving support from family, friends and other individuals and also mutual groups/recovery centers. Stigma associated with a mental illness can affect an individual in different aspects. It can lead to isolation from the community and friends through exclusions and rejections. It can make the individual to be denied proper housing, health insurance, loans and even jobs. A person may as a result of stigma loss self esteem making it difficult for him to interact and make new friends affecting his/her social life. They may also be denied treatment because of the denial state of the individual or the family members. It can also lead to separation in couples. Hence it is important for proper care to be taken to ensure that adequate care and love is provided to people with mental conditions. Bibliography Tilden, H. J. (2005) What Is Health? Wilderness, place and nature Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Wilderness, place and nature - Essay Example It has been extended to include wildlife. Sometimes the term is also used to define places that are deserted with lack of cultivation. The most modern perception of the word ‘wilderness’ lies in the depiction of areas, which confuse people. It represents mystery. The word can be said to have a dual meaning. On one hand it is inhospitable and threatening and on the other it represents beauty that is capable of providing solace to human eye. (Nash, 10-12, 44-45) The universe is a composition of nature and soul. Nature remains unchanged by mankind. It represents space, the air we breathe, rivers and even the leaves of trees. Every item that is a part of nature leaves a â€Å"kindred impression, when the mind is open to their influence† (Emerson, 1). It reflects the wisdom and the simplicity of childhood. There is a considerable link between wilderness and nature. The biodiversity of nature is well maintained by the remoteness of wilderness, which directly benefits th e former. Absence of artificial barriers in the areas of wilderness helps in the preservation of nature. A place on the other hand refers to any space of the universe that may have definite or indefinite boundaries. There are similarities in the concepts of wilderness, places and nature along with slight differences in the conceptualization of the three. Wilderness, places and nature interact amongst themselves to render a meaning to human lives.     Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The idea of the term wilderness has been a tenet that is fundamental to the environmental movements that last for decades. It has rather been a passion. The last place on the earth where the artificial civilization of human beings has not yet infected the space with all diseases of the species is termed as wilderness. Wilderness can be termed as an island in the sea of polluted industrialization achieved by the urbane modernity and this term rules out the chances of pollution. Wilderness is that place on the eart h where human beings can escape being tired of the artificial happiness that has been created by them in the name of modernization. In the hope of saving the planet from this spread of modernization and hence industrial pollution, there is the need of rethinking wilderness. According to Thoreau, the preservation of the earth and nature lies only in wilderness. Wilderness has been described profoundly as a creation of human beings and not something that is far from the reach of humanity. He expresses his desire to retreat into the wilderness as he comments â€Å"Let me live where I will, on this side is the city, on that the wilderness, and ever I am leaving the city more and more, and withdrawing into the wilderness † (Thoreau 2). Though wilderness seems natural, it hides the unnaturalness behind the mask, which is more captivating â€Å"because it seems so natural† from outside. Imaginations and reflections often trick human beings into perceiving the same as â€Å"n ature when in fact we see the reflection of our own unexamined longings and desires† (Cronon 1). The preservation of wilderness is for the betterment of human beings and needs to be ensured for the ultimate pleasure of them. As the frontier began to fade away, Americans tried to protect the wilderness within specific places termed as National Parks (Cronon, 2). Cronon therefore argues that the wilderness perceived by human beings is not actually a part of nature. For instance, the Indians previously used to live in the wilderness which they called their home but later they were removed from there to give space to tourism activities such that the place could be referred as â€Å"uninhabited wilderness† (Cronon, 7). Hence the wilderness in America is very much constructed. It is important for human beings to be a part of nature and accept the same as their

However, the enslavement practices of Native Americans were quite different from the European practices. The Native Americans did not treat their slaves as inferior creatures. The Native American culture allowed the slaves to acquire freedom through various options. As already mentioned they could either get adopted in the family or else they could free themselves through marriage, in cases of death of their masters or by performing any particular service that provided them freedom from the captor. 2 Not all captives were taken into enslavement; they were also tortured under different conditions.
